Time and Billing: Time Entry

The Data Entry Module

The TIME ENTRY Program can be used in three ways:

  • In real time entry mode by an Attorneys with a computer on his/her desk
  • In Batch mode by a secretary entering an Attorney's time
  • In Batch mode by a central accounting department entering the firm's time

In REAL TIME, the program is set as a startup option under Windows 95/98. When you turn your computer on in the morning, the system starts recording your time automatically to an administrative account.

Once you start to work, you can select a Matter in several ways:

  • From a list of the Matters you worked on recently

  • From an alphabetical list of Clients and/or Matters

  • Using the word index Search

  • By the Matter's account number

The system is designed to let you choose whether to make more use of the mouse or the keyboard. If you can't type, let the mouse do most of the work for you. When you have chosen a Matter, the program starts accumulating time for that Matter.

If you get a telephone call or switch to a different project, simply select the appropriate Matter and the system keeps track of the time you changed Matters and continues to record your time. When the telephone call is over, use the mouse to point at the previous Matter and the program will continue to accumulate time to it.

You can review your day in time sequence or grouped by the Matters on which you worked. You can combine "pieces of time" or break apart entries, which should be billed as separate activities.

Descriptions can be typed directly, phrases can be invoked by macros, or you can cut and paste from WordPerfect or MS Word. If you have a computer with certain voice recognition software, you can even dictate the description. Spell Checking is performed as you type.

A "Missing Time" Report will print a list of the activities for the day and help you to identify time slots where nothing was recorded. The program allows you to review and edit you time for the day.

The first Workstation license of the TIME ENTRY Program is included with the Attorneys Software System. This module may be purchased separately, or additional licenses may be purchased for Network Users.
